Percentage of funds from Drag Race meet to go towards cancer treatment – News Room

The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) and the Rotary Club of Demerara have teamed up to make a positive impact in October, the month that is designated globally towards cancer awareness.

Through the highly anticipated Drag Race meet dubbed 1320 Heat Rematch on Sunday at the South Dakota Circuit, the two organisations plan to donate a percentage of the gate receipt to the Beacon Foundation to assist with care and treatment of cancer patients.

“As you know a lot of persons cannot afford the treatment, so we’re using this event to help those persons who are in need. We’ve agreed that 10% of the gate receipt would be given to the Beacon Foundation to assist in this regard,” Hansraj Singh, the president of the Rotary Club of Demerara, outlined.

While the Drag Race meets are traditionally well supported, Singh is urging Guyanese to make a special effort to come out on Sunday to not just witness the exciting races, but stand in support of those affected by the disease.

The Drag Race meet will feature rivalry among drivers from Guyana and Suriname. The action will speed off at 09:00h.

General admission tickets cost $1,000 each, VIP $4,000 each; children under 10 would be admitted free.
