GMR&SC Launches Initiative to Foster Female Participation in Motorsports

The Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMRSC) took a bold step towards increasing female involvement in motorsports by launching its first coaching initiative on Sunday at the South Dakota Circuit. This program marks the beginning of a broader effort to create a supportive environment for women interested in pursuing a career or hobby in the exciting world of racing.

The inaugural session featured guidance from Stefan Jeffrey, GMRSC Certifying Officer and accomplished Group 3 driver. Jeffrey provided coaching and practical driving tips to the participating women, helping them understand the track and the racing fundamentals.

Adding to the experience, the women had the opportunity to take their vehicles onto the track, completing a few laps under the leadership of Group 2 Champion, Shan Seejatan, who drove the lead car. This hands-on experience gave them a feel for the sport and boosted their confidence behind the wheel.

Further encouragement came from current female competitors Krystin Jaenicke and Zaleema Hannif, who shared their personal experiences and offered valuable advice. Both racers highlighted the opportunities and challenges faced by women in motorsports, inspiring the attendees to take the leap into this thrilling sport.

GMRSC Executive Luis Kumar emphasized the club’s commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity in motorsports. “We are putting more effort into this project to ensure women feel supported and motivated to participate. We’re also excited to announce upcoming initiatives in collaboration with the FIA’s ‘Motorsports in a Box’ program, which will further enhance our development efforts,” Kumar said.

This initiative represents a milestone for GMRSC, which actively works to break barriers and create opportunities for women in a traditionally male-dominated sport. With more programs and partnerships on the horizon, the future looks bright for women in motorsports in Guyana.
