Mark Vieira returned to touring in the Caribbean in exquisite style this weekend for the second round of the 2018 Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) as he made a clean sweep of the Group 4 class, taking pole on Saturday and winning 2 races on Saturday and Sunday. Vieira also picked up a 5th place in the Radical SR3 races which have been added to the CMRC touring calendar.
The third Group 4 race was initially red flagged due to heavy rains but officials made a decision later in the day to re-run the race. This race, however, also ended with a red flag as there were on track incidents, one involving Doug Gore in the now Trinidadian owned ex-DTM Audi he once piloted and Christian Borne of Trinidad & Tobago in his Mitsubishi Evolution. Gore was also involved in an altercation with Borne immediately after the incident.
Team Guyana was not spared in this incident as Andrew King was hit from behind as he slowed to avoid the initial contact ahead of him
On the two wheeled side of the garages it was another dominant display for team Guyana, as Team Mohamed’s rider Matt Truelove also made a clean sweep in the CMRC Superbike races, taking pole on Saturday and the top step of the podium in all three races. This weekend’s event was Matt Truelove’s first Caribbean touring event since he joined the Team Mohamed’s camp at the Guyana round of the 2017 CMRC series.
The second rider for Team Guyana, Matthew Vieira also picked up a 4th and 8th as he campaigns for the 2018 CMRC Superbike title.
Making her touring debut this weekend was Sharima Khan who picked up respectable results despite having very limited track time before the race. The ‘Speed Queen’ picked up 5th and 7th places in the races she finished in Group 1.
For the two remaining members of the team it was a rough weekend at the office. Rameez Mohamed had issues with both his Honda Civic and Toyota Startlet during the weekend while Haniff Mohamed managed to pick up a 9th position in the second CMRC Group 3 race.
