The Guyana Medical Research & Support Center

This website has been set up to overlook the medical system of Guyana. For the last eleven years, I, Bryan Mackintosh has been writing to the newspapers in Guyana about the decline in the quality of medical care in Guyana. After numerous letters, we finally managed to get the Medical Council of Guyana which was then under the chairmanship of Dr. Walter Ramsahoye to publish the list of specialist doctors operating in Guyana. It is my firm belief that with the publication of this specialist list, many doctors will be unable to lie about their qualifications and as such patients will be better able to evaluate which doctor is better suited to their particular case.

A new Medical Council is now in place for 2006/2007 and we sincerely hope that they take the job of policing our medical system with a lot more vigor than previous councils. The last Medical Council of Guyana headed by Dr. M. Y. Bacchus appeared to be in a world of their own, they apparently abandoned the list of specialist doctors. It would seem that they were quite comfortable to allow doctors regardless of their qualifications to do as they please on unsuspecting patients. Their excuse? Guyana is a third world country and we as patients should quietly allow them to do what ever they want regardless of the outcome due to their inexperience. This seemingly uncaring attitude bears heavy consequences for all Guyanese and we have to come together to voice our combined objections to ensure better health care for all of us.
